First of all I wish to thank you for your interest in
ARANJUEZ Strings.
Allow me to tell you a little about myself and give you
some insight as to how and why I started to make ARANJUEZ
Strings. Since I was just a child in my native Spain, my
father started teaching me the many secrets of fine guitar
making. Many of his friends, very famous guitar makers such
as Marcelo Barbero, Modesto Borreguero and Jose Ramirez and
also maestros like Alirio Diaz, Ramon Montoya, Regino Saiz
de la Maza and Los Indios Tabajaras used to visit our home
frequently. I felt so happy and privileged. After all, for a
young boy that loved learning to play guitar and was also
learning to become a luthier, I could not have asked for
more suitable surroundings.
One thing that came up often in the conversation of these
great luthiers and masters of the guitar was their
complaints about strings. They were "too hard", "the sound
was poor" either in quality or volume or both and "they did
not last long". Listening to this so many times, I began to
dream of one day making the RIGHT nylon strings for the
guitars we all loved so much.
Years later, I had my own shop on 48th Street in
Manhattan and successfully made my own classical and
flamenco guitars. One day in 1967 I had just put strings on
one of my new instruments when I heard myself complaining
about the strings ..... just as I had heard my father and
his friends do so many times when I was growing up in
Madrid.
I
knew then and there that the day had come to try to make
THAT string with a quality to actually enhance
and make the
guitar sound it's best, regardless of the price of the
instrument. After almost a year of testing materials,
consulting with engineers and many marvelous
guitarists in New York (Julian Bream, Al Franky, Alfredo Gil
and Rey de la Torre) just to name a few, whose help and
input were priceless, I knew the strings were ready for the
market. That was in 1968 and by 1970 I was receiving orders
from 71 countries all over the world. ARANJUEZ Strings
became a standard, requested by both professional and
amateur players!
Over the past 40 years we have made changes and many
improvements, but we have never strayed from my original
goal and objective ... to make the very finest nylon strings
that any player could hope to put on an instrument.
